These tiny pointed flakes of flint were found in the Sussex Weald at Holtye, near Forest Row. They are called microliths.

In the Mesolithic, or Middle Stone Age, people developed new skills, including the use of flint flakes to make weapons.

The flakes were used to make spear tips or the points and barbs of arrows. They were fixed with resin to shafts made of wood or bone.

Large numbers of microliths have also been found at Selmeston. You can see more images of microliths and how they may have been used here.
