What are Microorganisms?
Organisms that can be seen only under the microscope are called microorganisms. The study of microorganism is called microbiology.
Microorganisms are of 5 types - algae, bacteria, fungi, Protozoans and viruses.
What are Algae?
Algae are simple, plant-like organisms. They can make their food by their own - they have chlorophyll, and can photosynthesis.
What are Bacteria?
Bacteria are the simplest of organisms and are believed to be the first living beings to have appeared on earth. They are Unicellular. Bacteria are of four types - • Rod-shaped : baccili, • Spherical-shaped : cocci, • Spiral-shaped : spirilla and • comma-shaped : vibrios.
What are Fungi?
Fungi are a group of plant-like organisms which lack chlorophyll. They are both Unicellular and multicellular.
What are Protozoans?
Protozoans are animal-like organisms and their name even means 'the first animal'.
What are Viruses?
Viruses are something between living and the nonliving. They are acellular, which means they do not have any of the substances contained in a cell. They consist of a bit of nuclear material wrapped in a protein coat.
Organisms which cannot be seen with a naked eye are known as microbes/micro-organisms. They can be seen with the help of a microscope.
