Coarse grains is not a standard definition. All cereals are mostly grains (tubers like potato/cassava are also cereals). In trade and industry terms, usually wheat, rice and maize (corn) are seperately identified, measured and traded but the rest of the grains like millets, jowar, bajra, sorghum etc are clubbed under coarse grains because they are not significant for particular statistics but are together required for general statistics as they have common properties like area of cultivation, nutrients, production and consumption patterns etc. Hence coarse grains are defined by each country's
