A mineral is a naturally occurring chemical compound, usually of crystalline form and not produced by life processes. A mineral has one specific chemical composition, whereas a rock can be an aggregate of different minerals or mineraloids. The study of minerals is called mineralogy

Answer:

Explanation: KOMinerals are naturally occurring inorganically formed substances which have their own physical and chemical properties.

Minerals can be classified into the following groups:

1. Metallic minerals: Metallic minerals are those minerals which are found in igneous rocks. In their natural state, they are solid, heavy and expand when heated. They can be melted into various shapes or rolled into sheets and can be drawn into wires. They possess a shine or lustre of their own. Ex: gold, silver, copper etc.

2. Non metallic minerals: These minerals are associated with sedimentary rocks. They cannot be melted or drawn into wires and do not expand when heated. They don't have lustre. Ex: Limestone, gypsum, salt etc.

3. Mineral fuel: Coal, petroleum and natural gas are non metallic minerals but they are under the category of mineral fuel because they are a source of energy and generate power for the development of transport and industry.
