Mitochondria produces power in the form of ATP which is needed by the cell to perform various activities. So it is called the power house of the cell.

It is a rod shaped organelle. It looks like the picture above.

Mitochondria arealso called power house of the cell because the energy required for various chemical activities needed for life is released by mitochondria in the form of (ATP) adenosine triphosphate molecules.
          Mitochondria have two membrane covering instead of just one . the outer membrane is deeply folded. These folds create chemical reactions.
