These nanomaterials include quantum dots, nanogold, nanosilver and metaloxides, such as titanium dioxide. A quantum dot is a closely packedsemiconductor crystal comprised of hundreds or thousands of atoms, and whose size is on the order of a few nanometers to a few hundred nanometers.

Nanomaterials describe, in principle, materials of which a single unit is sized (in at least one dimension) between 1 to 1000 nanometres .
