  • Neuron is a basic nerve cell that builds the nervous system and transmits information throughout the body.
  • Receive signals: Nerves receive signals because they are irritable, meaning that they can respond to a stimulus. Once a stimulus is received by a nerve cell it converts it to a neural impulse which passes along the nerve.
  • Transmit nerve impulses: Nerves are able to transmit impulses along the length of the nerve cell in the form of an electrical signal (like power lines). These electrical signals move from one end of the nerve cell to another and can pass from nerve to nerve.
