Nissl’s granules are granular structures present in the cytoplasm of neurons. They are essentially RER but their ribosomes are polysomes ( group of ribosomes) that are is a rosette arrangement. They are called Nissl’s granules because a German neuropathologist developed a special stain specifically for making them visible under the microscope. And hence to honor him they were named after him. But the complete function of Nissl’s granules isn't yet fully known. It's thought to be the same as golgi body and ER. But it is possible it might have some extra functions.
