The production or the energy generated by means of wind, tides, solar, geothermal heat, and bio-mass including farm and animal waste as well as human excreta is known as non-conventional energy.

All the non conventional sources of energy have a bright future because they are easily and abundantly available because of its inexhaustible nature.
For Example :
Solar energy has a bright future in India because:
--India is a tropical country so it has better or enormous possibilities of trapping solar energy.

a. Non conventional sources of energy are inexhaustible and renewable.

b. They are obtained at low cost and can be used to meet the growing needs of population and industrialization.

c. India is blessed with abundance of sunlight, bio mass, wind, water which can serve as alternative to conventional sources of energy.

d. Use of non conventional sources of energy is in tune with objective of sustainable development as it does not  cause environmental hazards.  

e. Solar energy in India is fast becoming popular in rural and remote areas which in turn will be able to minimize the dependence of rural households on firewood and dung cakes and supply manure in agriculture.

f. India now ranks as a “wind super power” in the world. Nagarcoil and Jaisalmer are well known for effective use of wind energy in the country.

g.  In India, the Gulf of Kuchchh, provides ideal conditions for utilising tidal energy. A 900 mw tidal energy power plant is set up here by the National Hydropower Corporation.

h. India is also gifted with several hot springs which can be used to generate electricity. One is located in the Parvati valley near Manikarn in Himachal Pradesh and the other is located in the Puga Valley, Ladakh.
