An ocean current is a permanent or continuous, directed movement of ocean water that flows
in the Earth's oceans. The currents
are generated from the forces acting upon the water like the earth's rotation, the wind, the temperature and salinity differences and
the gravitation of the moon.
There are two type of ocean current:
1.Surface driven-They are mainly wind driven and have horizontal motion. 2.Deep currents-They are caused by difference in density, salinity and temperature. They have both vertical and horizontal motions
Tides are the alternative rise and fall of sea levels caused by the combined effects of the gravitational forces exerted by the Moon and the Sun and the rotation of the Earth.
1)Spring Tides: When the moon is full or new, the gravitational pull of the moon and sun are combined. At these times, the high tides are very high and the low tides are very low. This is known as a spring high tide. Spring tides are especially strong tides . They occur when the Earth, the Sun, and the Moon are in a line.
2)Neap Tides: During the moon's quarter phases the sun and moon work at right angles, causing the bulges to cancel each other. The result is a smaller difference between high and low tides and is known as a neap tide. Neap tides are especially weak tides. They occur when the gravitational forces of the Moon and the Sun are perpendicular to one another. Neap tides occur during quarter moons.

ocean current- the movement of the ocean water in a definite direction is called the ocean current.
tides-the alternate rise and fall in the level of sea water is know as tides.
