The indicators that give specific smell when added in acid or base are called as olfactory indicagors.
e.g
the smell of onion extract is destroyed when added in base

OLFACTORY INDICATORS :-

Olfactory indicators are those which can be used to identify an acid or a base with the helps of the smell produced after adding them in the solution.

SOME OLFACTORY INDICATORS :-

● ONION - Onion is one of the olfactory indicator. When it is added to an acidic solution its characteristic smell cannot be detected whereas when it is added to a basic solution its characteristic smell can be detected.

● VANILA - When it is added to an acidic solution its smell cannot be detected b
whereas in a basic solution it can be detected.
