Oliver Reginald Tambo, leader of the African National Congress in exile for thirty years, died on 23 April 1993. Yet his legacy lives on. Comrade O.R. left us a significant and enduring heritage, one, which enhanced our new constitution, contributed to the inclusive and equitable policies of our democratically elected government, and affirmed the abiding vision of the ANC itself.

• Oliver Tambo was a Radical and South African anti-apartheid activist who served from 1967 to 1991 as the Chairman of the African National Congress ( ANC).
• Tambo took a key role in both the public and internal systems of the Apartheid Independence Movement. It saw him not only as an activist with a concerted voice of the mass struggle and of the underground groups and the international community's solidarity against the regime of apartheid, but also as a leader in the eyes of the world.
