What are oxides? What are the four main types of oxides. Describe each with an

Answers
An oxide is a category of chemical compound that has one or more oxygen atoms as well as another element in its composition such as Li2O, CO2, H2O, etc.
An oxide is a chemical compound that contains at least one oxygen atom and one other element in its chemical formula.
Based on their acid-base characteristics oxides are classified as (1) acidic, (2) basic,(3) amphoteric, or(4) neutral.
ACIDIC OXIDES: are the oxides of non-metals and these acid anhydrides from acid with water.
BASIC OXIDES: are the oxides of metals. If soluble in water, they react with water to produce hydroxide.
AMPHOTERIC OXIDES: An amphoteric solution is a substance that can chemically test as either acid or base.
NEUTRAL OXIDES: Neutral oxides show neither basic nor acidic properties and hence do not form salts when tested with acids or base.
