Answer: Parallels of latitudes and Meridians of longitudes are the imaginary lines used for dividing the Earth into different sections. The intersection of longitudes and latitudes forms a grid. This grid can be used for locating places on Earth. Latitudes are called as parallel because they never intersect with each other. This divides the Earth into the Northern and Southern Hemisphere. The longitudes are called as meridians because they do intersect with each at a certain point and they are used for dividing the Earth into Eastern and Western Hemisphere.
