Phanerogams are flowering or seed-bearing plants. They are the most advanced plants. They possess well-developed roots, stems, leaves and flowers.

Phanerogams are divided into two main groups:

Gymnosperms (naked-seed plants)
Angiosperms (closed-seeded plants)

  • Phanerogams are seed bearing plants.
  • Phanerogams are multi-cellular, eukaryotic, advanced types of plants.
  • They are well-differentiated plants that bear seeds so it is determined as spermatophytes.
  • Gymnosperms and angiosperms are the basic two types of classification.
  • The non-flowering plants are called gymnosperms and flowering plants are angiosperms.  
  • In Gymnosperms, seeds are not enclosed in an ovary ie.,  naked seeds and they will not make fruits or flowers.
