Answer:

Physical Properties of Metals :-

1. Lustre -

Metals possesses a peculiar shine on their surface. This is called metallic lustre. We can easily see that by observing some metal articles like iron key , aluminum vessel, copper wire ,gold and silver ornaments, etc . Gold has a yellow lustre and copper, a brownish . Rest of the metal have white lustre.

2. Physical State -

Metals are generally solid at room temperature .Only exceptions are gallium and mercury . They are liquid at room temperature .

3. Malleability -

The property of a substance because of which it can be beaten into thin sheets is called malleability.

The substances that possess this property are called malleable. Metals are malleable. If we beat a metal object hard with hammer, it will not be broken down . Rather, it will flatten down to a sheet . Non - metals do not have these property. That is why we can see the fine sheets and foils of aluminium ,Silver ,Gold, copper or iron but never of carbon , sulphur or graphite .

4. Hardness -

All the metal are hard, but Sodium and potassium are so soft that they could be even cut with a knife.

5. Ductility -

It is the property of a substance by which it can be drawn into wires.

The material that possess this property are called ductile. Metals , i.e. we can draw wires of metals. We can see wires of different metals like Copper, silver, aluminium, etc.

6. Sonorous -

Sonority is the property of a substance to produce sound when collide together. Metals are sonorous and produce sound when struck together in solid state. ... High-density metals will not as easily propagate the kinetic energy, due to additional atomic collisions damping the effect.

7. Density -

Metals generally have high densities. In common Language, we can say that metals are heavy . To make clearer, we can say that same value of metal has more number of atoms than that of a non metal.

8. Conductivity of Heat -

Metals are good conductors of heat . They get heated up very fast when kept on flame. That's why cooking vessel are made up of metal like Iron and Aluminium.

9. Conductivity of Electricity -

Metals are good conductors of electricity. That means they allow the electricity to pass through them . That's why electric wires are made up of metal like Copper and Aluminium. Best conductor of electricity among all the metal is silver, followed by Copper and aluminum. But silver being expensive, is not used commonly to make electric wires. So, copper is used for this purpose.

10. Melting and Boiling points -

Metals have very high melting and boiling point. But Sodium and potassium are exceptions their melting point are very low.
