Piezo material has unique properties of generating mechanical pressure upon applying electric field across the cross section.

The word ‘piezo’ means squeeze ; The semiconductor materials such as silicon ,germanium increases its resistance to current flow under mechanical stress.

This property is used for making pressure sensors (Piezo-resistors)

The commonly used Strain gauges work on similar principle.

Typically Used :

This property is utilized in many sensor applications (wide application). In an engine enormous pressure is built during the piston movement, it is sensed by this sensor. Some temperature measurements are also done depending upon the physical properties available these sensors are designed.
