Answer:

Plant hormones are signal molecules, produced within plants, that occur in extremely low concentrations. Plant hormones control all aspects of plant growth and development, from embryogenesis, the regulation of organ size, pathogen defense, stress tolerance and through to reproductive development.

plant hormones and their functions

Gibberellins- Break the dormancy of seeds and buds; promote growth

Cytokinins- Promote cell division; prevent senescence

Abscisic Acid-Close the stomata; maintain dormancy

Auxins - involved in tropisms and apical dominance

Plant Hormones:-

• Plant Hormones are chemical substances that makes a coordinates between the biological functions of plants.

• Their place of synthesis is away from their field of action and they reach the field of action by diffusion.

• They reach very small amounts in various organs of plants and grow or control many metabolic activities.

Three Plant Hormones:-

1. Auxins:

  • They control root growth of plants.
  • They are useful in the production of seedless fruits.
  • Here, oxygen is controlled for the loss of leaves and fall of fruits.

2. Cytokinins:

  • Cytokinin is an essential hormone for cell division.
  • It performs the function of differentiation of tissues.
  • Cytokinins induce germination of seeds.

3. Abscissic acids:

  • Abscisic acid inhibits plant growth.
  • It controls the action of transpiration by closing stomata.
  • It controls the action of leaf fall.
  • Abscisic acid also controls the separation of flowers and fruits from plants.
