● Plastids are defined as small organelles present in the cytoplasm of the plant cell.

● They are of three types :

▪ Leucoplasts - These kind of plastids are used for the storage of starch in plant cells. They have no pigment and are therefore white in colour.

▪ Chromoplasts - These kind of plastids are used to permit color to the petals of flowers , etc. They contain pigmants called carotene and xanthophyll.

▪ Chloroplasts - These kind of plastids are used in the process of photosynthesis as they have green coloured pigment.
