The plastids is a major double-membrane organelle found in the cells of plants , algae , some other eukaryotic organisms .
Plastids are of the following three types :
1) Chromoplasts . Coloured plastids ( except green colour ) .
2) Chloroplasts . Green - coloured plastids .
3) Leucoplasts . The Colourless plastids .
FUNCTIONS :
Plastids perform the following functions :
1) Chloroplasts trap solar energy and utilities it to manufacture food for the plant .
2) Chromoplasts impart various colours to flowers to attract insects for pollination .
3) Leucoplasts store food in the form of carbohydrates ( Starch ) , fats and protein .
