these are special organelles in different shapes - oval, sperical and disc shaped.

three types are-

- leucoplasts- found in potato cells.

-chromoplasts- petals of flowers and fruits.

- chroloplasts-

The platids that semi autonomous organelles having it's own DNA and ribosomes. They are double membranes and basically found in the plant cell. Depending upon the colour and functions, the platids are of three types:

  • Chloroplast
  • Chromoplast
  • Leucoplast

As I have mentioned before, there are three types of plastids, Let's know something about them.

\large{\rm{\purple{Chloroplast }}}- The green coloured plastics which contains chlorophyll that helps in trapping solar energy for photosynthesis are known as Chloroplast. The chloroplast is the kitchen of the cell. The chloroplast are found in Mesophyll cells of leaf. These are the site of photosynthesis. The thylakoids are structures present in the grana of chloroplast. They store chlorophyll on their thylakoid membrane.

  • Function - Performing photosynthesis.

\large{\rm{\purple{Chromoplast }}}- The coloured plastids having pigments other than green are known as Chromplast. These are found in the brighter and colourful parts like flowers. Several pigments found in chromoplast are Xanthophyll, Carotene etc.

  • Function - Attracting insects for pollination.

\large{\rm{\purple{Leucoplast}}} - They occur in non green, underground parts like the roots. They are colourless and storage sacs and also on the basis of substances they store, they are of three types:

  1. Amyloplast - Stores carbohydrates
  2. Aleuroplast - Stores proteins
  3. Elaioplast - Stores oils and lipids.
  • Function - Helps in storage.
