Polyatomic atoms are the group of atoms that have a net charge on them.

Hence ions are charged particles .

Example :

1. Sulphate ion --- SO4⁻²

sulphate ion contains atoms of sulphur and oxygen atoms with a net charge of -2

2. Carbonate Ion -- CO3⁻²

Carbonate ion contains atoms of carbon and Oxygen with a net charge of -2

Poly-atomic Ions are those kinds of ions which are having a charge of magnitude more than 1 (either positive or negative) and are made up of at least two different atoms.

There are many Polyatomic Ions in Chemistry.

For Example,

Cr₂O₇²⁻ is called as Chromate Ions and is an example of Poly atomic Ions.

Also,  HSO₄⁻ is an example of the Polyatomic Ions.

There is one more term similar to it, which is Poly-valent ions, which means the ions which is formed by the same atoms but having charge greater than 2.

Hope it helps.
