PROTOZOAN

Protozoa is a chiefly motile and heterotrophic unicellular protists (such as amoebas, trypanosomes, sporozoans, and paramecia) that are represented in almost every kind of habitat and include some pathogenic parasites of humans and domestic animals.


Protozoa are of four types :-

1)Sarcodina – the ameba, e.g., Entamoeba.

2)Mastigophora – the flagellates, e.g., Giardia, Leishmania.

3)Ciliophora – the ciliates, e.g., Balantidium.

4)Sporozoa – organisms whose adult stage is not motile e.g., Plasmodium, Cryptosporidium.
