Answer :

Protozoans -

  • They are a type of Protista.
  • Protozoans are said to be heterotrophic.
  • They are either predators or parasites.
  • They are believed to be primitive relatives of animals.
  • The four major groups of protozoans include Amoeboid, Flagellated, Ciliated and sporozoans.

Amoeboid Sporozoans -

  • They live in freshwater, sea water or moist soil.
  • They move and capture prey by pseudopodia.
  • The Marine forms of amoeboids have silica shells on their surface.
  • For example : Amoeba.
  • Some are parasites, like : Entamoeba.

Falgellated Sporozoans -

  • They are free living or parasitic.
  • They have flagella.
  • Parasitic form of Falgellated sporozoans cause diseases like sleeping sickness.
  • Eg : Trypanosoma.

Ciliated Protozoans -

  • They are aquatic.
  • They are more active by using cilia.
  • They have a cavity called gullet that opens to outside.
  • Due to movement of cilia, water with food enters into gullet.
  • Eg : Paramecium.

Sprozoans -

  • They are infectious spore like stage in the life cycle.
  • Eg : Plasmodium (malarial parasite) which causes malaria.
