Answer:

the order of reaction now becomes one, that is the reaction is now first order reaction. Such reactions are called pseudo-first order reactions. Another example of pseudo first-order reaction is the inversion of cane sugar.

→ Pseudo First Order Reaction :

A chemical reaction between two substances when one reactant is present in excess quantity .

Ex ; Hydrolysis of Ethyl Acetate -

CH_{3}-CO-OC_{2} H_{5}+H_{2} O--H_{2} --- > CH_{3}-COO H

  • If At time t=0    :    0.01 mol         10 mol           0 mol          0 mol
  • and, at time t :          0 mol      9.99 mol     0.01 mol    0.01 mol

-> [H_{2} O]_{t=0 } ≅ [H_{2} O]_{t}

                                           ; mean that concentration of  H_{2} O does not change . So it ca not change the rate .               [H_{2} O] = constant

                                                                                    k'[H_{2} O] = constant

                                                                                                        = k

-> Rate of reaction = k'[H_{2} O] [CH_{3}COOC_{2}H_{5}   ]

Rate of reaction = k[CH_{3}COOC_{2}H_{5}   ] -> It indicates 1^{st} order kinetics .
