Public sector activities are those activities which are set up by government for welfare and benefit of whole society ,not for an individual. Every one is allowed to access public services.

Example:

1) Railways:-The government has taken up it for the following reasons

a) Only the govt can invest large sum of money on the public project with long gestation period

b)To ensure and provide transportation at cheap rate.

2)NTPC:-The government has taken up it to provide electricity at a lower rate than the actual cost of production

3)AIIMS:--To provide quality health services at reasonable cheap rate was the main purpose of the government.

The public sector has a key role to play in enhancing the local jobs. Public services include public goods and governmental services such as the military, police, infrastructure, etc.

government involvement include:

Involuntarily acquiring property as a function of their governmental powers;

Leasing of the property by the state or a municipality;

Negotiating a purchase in a transaction similar to one negotiated between private parties;

Responding to an emergency on contaminated property; or

Implementing, monitoring, or enforcing institutional controls.

Hope it works !!!
