Mountains along the eastern boundary in Indian state are called Purvanchal. Some of the peaks include Patkai Bam and the Naga Hills located in the northern regions of India.

Mizo hill in the south are also of medium height. Jaintia, Khasi and Garo hills are on the leeward side of the monsoon season.
