Quantum numbers is defined as the set of numbers that used to describe the position and energy of the electron in an atom. There are four quantum numbers, namely, principal, azimuthal, magnetic and spin quantum numbers. Principal Quantum Number (n): signifies the size of the electron cloud.

Answer:

The set of  numbers used to describe the position of electrons in an atomic orbital is called quantum numbers.

There are 4 types of quantum numbers:-

A] Principal quantum number The quantum no. used to denote electrons in a shell symbolized as "n" . n=1,2,3,,,

B] AZIMUTHAL QUANTUM NUMBER The quantum no. used to denote subshell of electron symbolized as "L" . L=0,1,2,3 for s,p,d,f subshells.

formula is N-1.

C] MAGNETIC QUANTUM NO. The quantum no. used to denote shells within a subshell symbolized as "M" . The formula is 2L+1.

D] SPIN QUANTUM NUMBER This quantum no shows exact orientation of electron inside a orbital.  symbolized by "S" . it is always different for two electrons in a orbital. it is either +1/2 or -1/2
