Answer:

Receptor is a cell/tissue/organ which receives an external or internal stimulus. E.g., Skin, eye.

Types of Receptor.

1/ Phonoreceptor:- sensitive to sound like organ of corti of ear.

2/ Thermoreceptor:- sensitive to heat or cold and help to regulate body temperature by signalling hypothalamus i.e., the body's thermostat.

3/ Photoreceptor/Electromagnetic receptor:- sensitive to intensity and wavelength of light, image formation, electricity and magnetism.

4/ Chemoreceptor:- these are sensitive to molecules like water, glucose, oxygen, carbon dioxide and amino acid. The stimulus molecule bind to specific site on the membrane to change its permeability.

Function of Receptor.

They detect the signals and then send them to brain in the form of electrical signal.

(It detects all the information from our surroundings and carries it to the nervous system.)
