A reducing agent is an element or compound that loses an electron to an electron recipient in a redox chemical reaction. A reducing agent is thus oxidized when it loses electrons in the redox reaction. Reducing agents "reduce" oxidizing agents. Oxidizers "oxidize" reducers.
