Relay neurons are found between sensory input and motor output/response. Relay neurons are found in the brain and spinal cord and allow sensory and motor neurons to communicate.

Relay neuron

A relay neuron (also known as an interneuron) passes signals between neurons.  Relay neurones are only found in the brain, visual system and spinal cord acting to relay signals. They receive a signal from one neuron and then transfer the signal to another interneuron resulting in the signal being passed to a motor neurone thus driving the reaction to the stimulus.

These can be differentiated from other neurones by observing their short dendritesand either long or short axons.
