What are reserved constituencies?

According to the Indian constitution, some constituencies are reserved for SC's, ST's and OBC. These are called reserved constituencies. Only candidates belonging to these classes can stand for elections in these constituencies.

Nowadays the reservation has extended to the local government also. A third of seats are reserved for women in the local level.
