When a constituency is reserved for people belonging to Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes-such constituency is known as reserved constituency. The constitution makers were worried that certain weaker sections may not stand a good chance to get elected to the Lok Sabha and the State Legislative Assemblies. The weaker sections may not have sufficient resources to win elections against the resourceful and influential persons. In such situation if the reservation is not given, our Parliament and Assemblies would become deprived of the voice of a significant section of our population. If such downtrodden categories of the society do not contest and win election, our democracy will become less representative and less democratic.
