  • Some cells, like the neurons of the brain can only respire using glucose. Other cells, however, can respire using lipids or amino acids. Lipids are broken down into fatty acids and glycerol.
  • These fatty acids are further broken down as acetyl CoA and enters the Kreb’s cycle. The amount of ATP produced, depends on the number of hydrogen atoms and NAD reduced during oxidative phosphorylation.
