  1. ribosomes are basically the cell organelles present in both eukaryotic as well as prokaryotic cell

  • Granular structures was first observed by George E. Palade under an electron microscope
  • It is made up of RNA and protein.
  • It is not surrounded by any membrane
  • Prokaryotic cells have ribosomes 70SE. Eukaryotic ribosomes are 80S. S stands for Svedberg unit, and is indicative of density and size.

Ribosomes play a very important role in  protein synthesis.
