A rock shelter — also rockhouse, crepuscular cave, bluff shelter, or abri — is a shallow cave-like opening at the base of a bluff or cliff. In contrast to solutional cave caves, which are often many miles long, rock shelters are almost always modest in size and extent.

It is mostly animals, that are found painted inside the rock shelters of Satpura National Park, located in the Hoshangabad District of Madhya Pradesh. Paintings of tigers and peacocks are found in these rock shelters. Tigers are supposed to represent power and is related to Goddess Kali.
