Ruminants are mammals that are able to acquire nutrients from plant-based food by fermenting it in a specialized stomach prior to digestion, principally through microbial actions.

•WHAT IS RUMINATION?

The process in which animals digest raw cellulose directly and easily by ruminant sac is called rumination .

WHAT ARE RUMINANTS?

Ruminants are those animals which perform rumination. like cow, buffalo,ox etc.

They have long intestine to digest cellulose which is complex carbohydrtaes.

HOW RUMINATION DIGEST CELLULOSE?

Ruminants swallow food at a glance first but when they are taking rest they again get that food back from stomach to mouth by negative flow of Oesophagus(foodpipe).

Their stomach also have certain bacteria which help them in digesting cellulose and accumulating it in their body.
