Rutherford was a scientist and he proposed a model for atoms.. He took alpha particles which were double charged Helium ions and passed it with gold foil (which was just 1000 atoms thick) .
After passing the alpha particles, following results were observed
•Most of the alpha particles went straight through the foil without any deflection
•Some particles deflected through some angles
•Every 1 out of 12000 particles was rebound (hitting and coming back)
From this we can say that:
•Most of the Space inside Atom is empty
•The positive charge was enclosed in a small place.. That was nucleus
•The radius of nucleus was 10^5 (1,00,000) times shorter than radius of the atom..
