Lucas reagent -----> Zn/HCl

it is a mixture of solution of anhydrous Zinc Chloride and conc. Hydrochloric acid.

It is used as a reagent to test alcohols and classify them according to their reactivity.

For example :- ROH + HCl—>RCl + H2O

Lucas' reagent is a solution of anhydrous zinc chloride in concentrated ... Also, the best results for this test are observed in tertiary alcohols, as they form the respective alkyl halides ..
