Salivary amylase is a glucose-polymer cleavage enzyme that is produced by the salivary glands.

Amylases digest starch into smaller molecules, ultimately yielding maltose, which in turn is cleaved into two glucose molecules by maltase.

Answer:

Salivary Amylase also known as ptyalin is an enzyme present in saliva that breaks down starch into disachharide ( maltose).

30% of starch digestion occur in mouth with the help of this salivary Amylase.

no digestion takes place in oesophagus.

salivary Amylase gets inactivated in the presence of acidic pH as we know , in stomach gastric juice contains HCl . this HCl retards the functioning of salivary Amylase..

this was all about salivary Amylase
