what are salt water lakes, which get cut off from the sea.
Answers
Most of the sources have two different answers: Sambhar lake (Rajasthan) and chilka lake (Orissa).
But Sambhar lake is India's largest inland salt-water lake with surface area of around 200 sq.km.
And, Chilka lake is India's largest coastal salt-water lake with surface area of around 1160 sq.km and falls in the category of brackish water lakes (i.e partially saline and separated from sea by a marginal reef).
So India's largest inland salt-water lake- Sambhar lake.
And, India's largest brackish water(partially saline) lake- Chilka lake.
And bonus info, India's largest natural freshwater lake- Wular lake.
So the question should be more specific. Otherwise you know the answer now. :) :)
Saltlakes are inland water bodies which have water higher amount of salinity in the water.
Saltlakes can be formed independently or can be formed from a sea.
The normal sea water is familiar to the saltlake water because both has higher amount of salinity.
Now for some reason, the coastal area gets transformed due to many geographical reasons and some amount of ocean water gets trapped in the new landform which becomes the ocean produced saltlakes.
