The characters that appear during the puberty and adolescence are called secondary sexual characters.
The characters are of two types :-
- Primary sexual characters
- Secondary sexual characters
What are they actually :-
- Primary sexual characters are the characters that are present during the baby is born. The characters through which a baby can be recognised as a boy or a girl are called primary sexual characters.
- Secondary sexual characters are the characters that appear during puberty and adolescence. Ex :-
- Growth of beard, moustache in boys
- Growth of hair in armpits in both
- Change of voice. In boys it become hoarse and a small change in girls
- Growth of Adams apple in some boys
- Development of Chest in girls
- Development of smell in sweat
- Development of acne
- Growth of genital hair
- Increase in height
- Girls grow faster than boys
- Muscle strength is higher in boys than in girls
- Menstruation in girls
- Checking themselves in the mirror frequently
- Grouping only with peers
- Not listening to elders
- Feeling shy with opposite gender
Secondary sexual characters help in reproduction.
