What are secondary sexual characters? Explain, also list factors that bring about these changes

Explanation:

The characters that appear during the puberty and adolescence are called secondary sexual characters.

The characters are of two types :-

  1. Primary sexual characters
  2. Secondary sexual characters

What are they actually :-

  1. Primary sexual characters are the characters that are present during the baby is born. The characters through which a baby can be recognised as a boy or a girl are called primary sexual characters.
  2. Secondary sexual characters are the characters that appear during puberty and adolescence. Ex :-
  • Growth of beard, moustache in boys
  • Growth of hair in armpits in both
  • Change of voice. In boys it become hoarse and a small change in girls
  • Growth of Adams apple in some boys
  • Development of Chest in girls
  • Development of smell in sweat
  • Development of acne
  • Growth of genital hair
  • Increase in height
  • Girls grow faster than boys
  • Muscle strength is higher in boys than in girls
  • Menstruation in girls
  • Checking themselves in the mirror frequently
  • Grouping only with peers
  • Not listening to elders
  • Feeling shy with opposite gender

Secondary sexual characters help in reproduction.
