Self help group

* It is a typical SHG that has 15 - 20 members, usually belonging to one neighborhood, who meet and save money regularly.

* Most of the important decisions regarding the saving and loan activities are taken by the group members.

* SHG's can get timely loans for a variety of purpose and at a reasonable interest rate. Thus, the SHGs help borrowers to overcome the problem of collateral.

* Moreover, SHG's are the building blocks of organisation of the rural poor.
