Several situations in which quantitative and qualitative research are more common.
- Data has an order or scale to it, whether it be quantitative or qualitative. That is while ordinal data is sometimes classed under quantitative data. But there is no standardised scale for qualitative data. For research and statistical analysis, both quantitative and qualitative data are utilised.
- Qualitative research and quantitative research are the two main forms of study. In contrast to quantitative research, which deals in figures and actual hard data, qualitative research deals in more ethereal descriptions. For instance, a hamburger's aroma is qualitative, yet its weight in grammes is quantitative.
- As long as no specific number is assigned to any of these descriptions, then the hair colours of football players, the colour of cars in a parking lot, the letter grades of students in a classroom, the types of coins in a jar, and the shape of candies in a variety pack are all examples of qualitative data.
- Quantitative research is a study done to determine how long it takes a doctor to treat a patient once they arrive at the hospital.
