SEX HORMONES

The hormones which help and  control  the formation of  secondary sexual characters are called sex hormones. These hormones are secreted from human sex organs and the tend to affect the sexual features of  the organism. This is the reason that they are named as sex hormones.

FUNCTIONS∴  In males testes produce male sex hormone called testosterone. This hormone helps in development and maintenance of the primary and secondary sexual characters and production of sperm.

In females the ovaries secrete oestrogen and progesterone responsible for the primary and secondary sexual characters.

The chemical substances produced by the sex organs are called sex hormones. For example, in  females, the sex hormones produced by the ovary are called estrogen and in males, the sex  hormones produced by the testis are called testosterone.

Some of the functions performed by the sex hormones:

Estrogen: This hormone is responsible for the development of secondary sexual characters in  females like enlargement of breasts, development of female reproductive organs etc.

Testosterone: This hormone brings the secondary sex character in boys such as the growth of  beard, the voice becomes hoarse, development of the reproductive organs etc.

HOPE IT HELPS YOU :)
