Shola forests are considered as tropical Montane forests. They are generally found in the valleys which are geographically separated by rolling grasslands. Such grasslands are found in areas with higher elevations. "Shola" word has originated from the word ‘ sholai ’ meaning thicket, cold place.  Such grasslands are rich store houses of biodiversity. They are very specific to Endemism which means species found in this area cannot be found in any other area.
