Sickle cells are the Red blood cell that are sickle shaped instead of a normal biconcave discoid shape

Explanation

  • This abnormal cells are formed due to mutation of beta globin gene that represent  beta subunit of hemoglobin. Hemoglobin performs the oxygen transport.
  • Mutation of the beta-globin gene changes a single nucleotide that result in the change of single amino acid( glutamic acid to valine).
  • This valine containing beta chain form hydrophobic bond with complementary side on adjacent strands and forming a helical polymer.
  • It changes the shape of RBC from normal to sickle shape.
  • Sickle shaped RBC are smaller than RBC  and due to sickle shape it get stuck in small blood vessel that slow blood flow and oxygen to the cells of the body. so in sickle shape anemia blood is low in Oxygen. Due to the sickle shape RBC are vulnerable, so they easily broken down that result in anemia.
  • Sickle shape anemia is an inherited autosomal disorder. so the stem cells or bone marrow transplantation are the one remedy for sickle shape disease.( Bone marrow is the site where RBC arises).

  • Sickle cell illness is caused by mutations within the beta-globin (HBB) sequence that causes the assembly of associate degree abnormal version of a fractional monetary unit of hemoglobin the macromolecule liable for carrying gas in red blood cells. This mutated version of the macromolecule is thought of as hemoglobin S.
  • associate degree genetic defect within which the red blood cells have associate degree abnormal crescent form, block tiny blood vessels and don't last as long as traditional red blood cells.
  • These outstandingly formed cells provide the illness its name. erythrocyte anemia is one amongst a gaggle of disorders referred to as erythrocyte illness.
  • Sickle cell associate degrees is a genetic red vegetative cell disorder within which there are not enough healthy red blood cells to hold gas throughout your body.
