a sill is a flat sheet-like intrusion. As molten magma, it pushed between older layers of rock. The older rock may be sedimentary rock, beds of volcanic lava or tuff, or metamorphic rock.

Hi friend..

sills ,also calledsheet, flat intrusion ofigneous rockthat forms between preexisting layers ofrock. Sills occur in parallel to thebeddingof the other rocks that enclose them, and, though they may have vertical to horizontal orientations, nearly horizontal sills are the most common. Sills may measure a fraction of an inch to hundreds of feet thick and up to hundreds ofmiles long.

hope it helps you..
