Solar cells are structured in layers with different functions. The working principle is the same as in semiconductors. The main part of a silicon (Si) solar cell generating solar power is formed by two differently doped (n- and p-) silicon layers.

Solar cells :

Solar cells use the energy in sunlight to produce electricity . Thus, solar cell is a device which converts solar energy directly into electricity.

Structure of solar panels;

A solar cell panel consists of a large number of solar cells join together in a definite pattern. The various solar cells in a solar cell panel are joined together by using connecting wires made of silver metal. This is because silver is the best conductor of electricity . The use of silver for connecting solar cells makes it more expensive but it increases the efficiency of solar cell panel.

Advantages;

1. solar cells are used for providing electricity in artificial satellites and space probes.

2. Solar cells are used for providing electricity to remote, inaccessible and isassociated places where normal Electricity Transmission lines not exist.
