Expansion of the British empire, the annexation of Transvaal by the British empire, the opposition of the Boer to the British rule in the Transvaal, were some of the causes of the Boer war.

Initially, this war began as a conflict from  1899 to 1902, in which the British force fought against the two republics of South Africa known as the Transvaal and the Orange Free State.

In order to make Transvaal its confederation, the British general ordered to annex the territory of Transvaal. This made the Boers disappointed with their government. Therefore, when the proclamation was read out in the Church, the leaders of Afrikaners opposed this annexation, but they failed in the attempt to deroot the British rule from their land. Though the British government promised to the Boers to provide them with the self-government, the then British general of the Transvaal Shepstone was not able to do so in his initial phase. he became unpopular. All this contributed to the beginning of the Boer war with Britishers.

The Boer Wars were fought between the British and the South African Republic of Transvaal, in 1880 – 81 (First Boer War) and 1899 – 1902 (Second Boer War)

The British wanted to capture the Transvaal Republic and expand their territory, in their race with other leading nations, to capture more colonies. The conquest would help them influence the trade route to India, around Cape of Good Hope. Another reason was the discovery of diamond deposits at Kimberly.
